Wi-Fi came back on after a power cycle on the T-Display P4 while every switch
in the UI read off, and the radio really was on: it downloaded a map tile
(#373, wb6zsu, with photographs of both states). The C6 runs its own AT
firmware with auto-connect enabled, so it rejoins the last access point by
itself at power-on, before the firmware ever asks it to. The loop that enforces
the radio pref only acts on a change, and on the first pass it recorded the
state instead of applying it, so "off" never became a transition and the join
the C6 made on its own was never torn down. That is also why toggling Wi-Fi on
and then off fixed it: that made a transition. The state is now applied on the
first pass, once the AT link is actually up. The Tanmatsu carried the same
first-pass logic and got the same fix.
The map's own location marker is a bare white glyph and vanishes on light
basemaps (#366, 100monkeys). The contact markers a few lines below it already
carry a dark border for exactly this reason and self never got one, so it now
gets the same: a dark chip behind the glyph, which reads on any basemap without
spending a colour that already means something else.
Wi-Fi passwords can be revealed while typing (#381, jesshampshire). Entering a
PSK blind on a device keyboard is a real failure mode: the reporter needed about
ten attempts to join their own network. The toggle sits on the password label's
line so it costs no vertical space, and it switches the keyboard mirror too, or
the characters stay masked in the one field being looked at.
The composer shows a character count (#350, jrote1). The 160-character cap was
silent: typing just stops, which reads as a broken keyboard. It appears only in
the last quarter and marks the limit when reached, so an ordinary short message
carries no readout. Counted in codepoints to match how the cap is enforced;
by bytes an emoji would read as four characters.
Built on all nine S3 envs and both ESP32-P4 targets.

The P4's internal FFat 'locfd' has a broken FAT metadata layer: open/
read/write work but f_stat/exists()/size() return garbage - and WHICH
garbage shifts with the build. At -Og the exists()-gated identity and
NodePrefs loads worked by luck; the -Os switch flipped the lie and the
device booted with a fresh identity and default name, and profile
changes never survived a reboot (the loads failed, not the saves).
Chat history was unaffected because it already lives on SD_MMC.
- DataStore::useSdMmcStorage(): full-store adoption of the card
(/meshcomod root, identity store included), mirroring the T-Deck's
useSdStorage(). The old card-root contacts3/channels2/adv_blobs from
the secondary-FS era are renamed under /meshcomod.
- Tanmatsu boot: one-time rescue of identity + prefs off FFat by OPEN
and READ probing (never exists()/size() on that FS), then adopt the
card. FFat remains the no-card fallback only.
- DataStore::loadPrefs() probes candidates by opening and reading a
byte instead of exists() - truthful on the P4, identical elsewhere.

- Contacts list rebuilds on advert (force past the count-cache) + a count-delta safety
net, so a node discovered off-tab or added by the phone app shows immediately (#73)
- New "Advertise on boot" toggle in the Advertise app, off by default (#76)
- Tanmatsu: cache Wi-Fi map tiles on microSD (the P4's internal FFat metadata layer is
broken — f_getfree/f_stat lie); read tiles via open() not the misreporting exists()/size()
- Tanmatsu: persist contacts/channels/chat on microSD (DataStore secondary FS + chat
history) so they survive reboot; identity/prefs stay on the (working) internal FFat
- Tanmatsu: boot fix (drop Serial.begin re-init of USB-Serial-JTAG), MQTT disabled, popups
fit + scroll, keyboard-nav scoped to the open popup, 2000 contacts, Large UI default
- Emoji/quick-reply Esc/red-X closes the popup not the chat; lock-screen unlock after msg-wake

b986f49 moved the_mesh to PSRAM and changed MyMesh.h's extern to 'MyMesh&', but the
Tanmatsu has its OWN main.cpp (tanmatsu/main/main.cpp, separate from src/main.cpp) that
still declared a plain 'MyMesh the_mesh' global — a conflicting declaration that broke
the P4 build (only the S3 envs were built for b986f49). Apply the same placement-new-
into-PSRAM + reference pattern here; the P4's 32 MB PSRAM gets the same DRAM win.

- Vol+ short = top-bar dropdown toggle; long hold = sound master toggle
- Message-notification LED: flash on new message, soft green glow on unread; toggle in Display settings
- Backups use the internal FFat partition (export/scan/import) + Import button on the Backups page
- microSD browsable in the file manager (P4 SDMMC slot 0; the C6 radio's slot 1 untouched)
- Status-bar icon overlaps fixed (charging-slide + language indicator now SC-scaled with the cluster)
- Vol- screen sleep/wake/lock (screen-lock work)
- Companion link: TCP server start + BLE bond NVS persistence + app-sent channel-message mirror
All Tanmatsu changes gated #if defined(HAS_TANMATSU); T-Deck/V4 bins stay byte-identical.

Headline: full keyboard navigation (on by default) — WASDZ spatial focus move, S select,
Q back, per-tab hotkeys (E/R/T/U/I) shown on the icons, plus scroll up/down (F/C). Every
key is remappable in Settings -> Keyboard. Foundation for keyboard-first devices like the
Tanmatsu T-Pager (no touchscreen) and a reliable keyboard workflow on the T-Deck today.
Also: #27 receive/flood reboot fix, on-boot crash-report prompt, map zoom +/- buttons (#26),
route-replay wide overview, 'App drawer as home' option. The in-progress Tanmatsu (ESP32-P4)
port source is now public. Mesh America catalog + release.sh kept from main.
